If you’re running Ableton Live 12, you now have access to a brand-new category of tools: MIDI Generators and MIDI Transformers. They let you transform MIDI directly inside a clip.

So I asked myself: could we recreate the random generative behavior of AutoPlay with these tools?

And the answer is YES!

The device has most of the features of the original AutoPlay, and even more:

·         4 different possible lengths

·         Random note selection between drawn notes of the clip

·         Length between 0 and 200% to allow overlapping notes (tie/legato/glissando - think 303 ;-) )

·         Random velocity

·         Swing parameter

·         Sidechain parameter to diminish 1st and 2nd 16th of each beat automatically

·         Density, with a nice feature as non triggered notes are still generated but without being active

·         Manual or Automatic random source to shuffle a new sequence

NEW — V1.2 update V1.2 adds two major upgrades:

• Scale-savvy transposition (musical transposition that respects your scale)
• Multiple-octave pattern generation (generate patterns across several octaves for wider melodic movement)
